The focus of all these positions is film assembly. The negatives from the Camera area need to be assembled into proper order and position for transfer of their images to printing plates.
Text Strippers assemble pages containing text images and halftones.
Layout Assistants prepare flats, draw underlays, and prepare text proofs. Preparing flats and drawing underlays are steps which allow the Text Strippers and Layout Artists to assemble film into correct position.
Layout Artists assemble film for the following book components: Paper book covers, cloth covers, paper dust jackets for case bound books, jacket wrappers for paper covered books, endsheets, and all 4-color process items. These components usually require close register and are more difficult to assemble.
