Consumer Product Safety Act (CPSIA) Information -
CPSIA became law in 2008 as a reaction to incidents of lead-tainted children's products being sold to consumers. The law narrowed limits of lead and phthalates allowable in children's products and also called for third-party testing, labeling and tracking systems, and safety certifications.
For the past 2 year, while the printing industry as a whole rallied to ask Congress to amend the CPSIA to exclude children books from the stringent environmental regulation, Thomson-Shore maintained its compliance with the regulation. On August 1, 2011, the CPSIA was amended to exclude children's books and paper-based printed materials from onerous third-party testing and certifcation requirements now in place for any and all products marketed to children under 12 years of age...
